Yiwen Tao, MA Psychology, works with people whose lived experiences do not fit neatly into categories — people navigating change, overwhelm, family complexity, neurodivergence, cultural dislocation, grief, identity, relationships, intergenerational patterns, or experiences of being misunderstood by the systems around them.

Yiwen’s approach is relational, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, strengths-based, person-centred, informed by ancestral teachings, and deeply attentive to the ways culture, family, identity, systems, and lived experience shape our lives.

Drawing from narrative, somatic, solution-focused, family systems, play-based, and nature-based approaches, Yiwen adapts therapy to the person rather than expecting the person to fit a particular model. Work with Yiwen may include conversation, body-based regulation, creative reflection, movement, time outdoors, expressive arts, practical problem-solving, gentle invitations into ritual and reflective practices, and making space for experiences that have been difficult to name elsewhere.

Yiwen works with adults, youth, children ages 6+, and families, with particular interests in neurodivergence, life transitions, parenting, relationships, identity, grief, and experiences of institutional or systemic harm.

Sessions are available in English, Mandarin, and Wu (Shanghainese), and may take place online, in-office, or in community and nature-based settings.
